Further thoughts on the cultural labor of poetry and art. Not merely "is it good?," but "what has it accomplished?"...reviews of recent poetry collections; selected poems and art dealing with war/peace/social change; reviews of poetry readings; links to political commentary (particularly on conflicts in the Middle East); youtubed performances of music, demos, and other audio-video nuggets dealing with peaceful change, dissent and resistance.

Yestday I saw this film, which is playing at the IFC Center in New York this week only. I've never seen a film like this before. It made me really glad I've never been a partier or a soldier. It drew a striking parallel between America's culture of degraded self-indulgent exhibitionism and the callous, exploitative abuse of Abu Ghraib prisoners for the entertainment of the bored young partiers who had become soldiers. A must-see!
