The cheerful part is the melody.<BR/><BR/>I think one of Pollard's best poem/songs (I've only got 5,000 to pick from or whatever) might be "Buzzards and Dreadful Crows." The live version still available (I think) on www.gbv.com has hundreds of people chanting Pollard's knotty lines back at him ("The lifeblood - the lighthouse flashing / 16 chicks remain on watch / For the wheels to come rolling in / And they do..."). Now that's poetry! "16 chicks..." has always reminded me of that Russian album you gave me (Grebenshikov maybe?) with the song called "16 Naked Chicks, Alas."<BR/><BR/>Also:<BR/><BR/>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U2DugGPTTk<BR/><BR/>is Pollard last year at his 50th birthday party playing "Exit Flagger."
